Nayikas or women characters have various classifications. In Sanskrit poetics, it is often found that the total number of nāyikās, based on various combinations of the classifications, is said to be 384. This research article titled ‘Quantification of Nayikas’ aims at throwing light on this magic number 384. How did the scholars arrive at this number? Is it justified? If not, what would be the number, are a few questions which have been dealt with. Understanding theory and the application of the same is very vital for presentation, thus a deeper study on this is warranted.
